Charles "Chuck" Bagley, of Pawtucket, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 30, 2024. Mr. Bagley was born in Providence, the son of the late Alphonse and Irene (Vaillancourt) Orlowski.
He was a longtime resident of the Arc of Blackstone Valley in Pawtucket. His association with the Arc began in 1979 at Blackstone Valley Industries where he engaged in bench work and completing orders in the cafeteria. In later years, Chuck was employed at the New to You Re-Sale Store sorting and sizing donations to be sold in the store. He remained there for several years until he chose to retire at the age of 62 and began attending the CARE Program. Chuck enjoyed his time at CARE because he could engage in one of his favorite things, talking and socializing with his many friends. The COVID Pandemic made it difficult for Chuck to stay connected with his friends, but new friends that he made at New Horizons Adult Day Center helped fill that void. When asked to describe himself, he would often say, "I'm a friendly person." Chuck was known to converse with anyone. He always asked how you were doing when having conversations. Chuck was an awesome friend to many, but had particularly long lasting friendships with Michael Barriere and Michael Schoepfer. Chuck and Michael Schoepfer especially enjoyed having dinner together, almost nightly, where they would talk about their shared love for sports, watch sporting events, game shows, local news and old-time shows on television. Chuck had a great memory, he always remembered people's birthdates and would make it a point to wish them "Happy Birthday" when he saw them. He was a wiz with sports statistics. During his free time, Chuck would write down sports information and statistics on sheets of paper, which he would then categorize and keep organized. When Chuck was getting low on paper, he could count on his brother, Douglas, to send a new shipment to his front door. Chuck's most favorite thing to do was going out to eat with friends and family, most often ordering Chicken Parmesan, very rarely deviating from his favorite meal. He cherished most, the time his spent with his cousins Sheila and Linda and their families, spending most weekends and holidays with them. Chuck was a strong self-advocate. He was a member of the Arc of Blackstone Valley's self-advocacy group, Citizens with Power, where he held the office of Treasurer for the past four years.
Chuck is survived by his brother Douglas Orlowski of Florida and his cousins, Sheila Daby of Cumberland, Sharon Smith of Pawtucket, Linda Saez and her son Matthew of Greene, RI.
