Carol I. McCabe, age 88, passed peacefully on May 7, 2026, while residing at Brookdale Sakonnet Bay. Born on January 4, 1938, in Brooklyn, Carol was the beloved daughter of the late Leona (Martel) Tremblay and Armand L. Tremblay. Carol was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose life was centered around family, creativity, strength, and generosity.
Carol shared 51 loving years of marriage with her husband, Joseph M. McCabe, who predeceased her. Together they began their lives in Pawtucket, where they started their family and welcomed four children. They later moved to Rehoboth, where they raised their clan and spent 43 wonderful years building a home filled with love, laughter, creativity, and lasting memories.
A wonderful mother and homemaker, Carol dedicated herself fully to her family and community. She volunteered actively at her children’s schools, served as a Girl Scout leader, and was a proud member of the Ireland's 32 Society. Carol especially cherished time spent with family and friends, sharing stories, laughter, and countless memories together.
Carol was a remarkably strong and independent woman who was never afraid to tackle any project, often despite Joe’s objections. An avid seamstress, artist, crafter, and do-it-yourself project manager, she embraced every challenge at least once and inspired those around her with her determination and creativity. She proudly passed many of those talents and passions on to her children and grandchildren.
Most of all, Carol was devoted to her role as wife and mother. She was always there for her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren whenever they needed her. Family always came first with Carol.
Carol is survived by her four children and their spouses: Cynthia McCabe-Holmes and Clinton Holmes; Cristina M. Offenberg and Eric Offenberg; Cathleen M. Cordeiro and Mark Cordeiro; and Michael J. McCabe and Alyson McCabe. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren Trevor, Nathaniel, Victoria, Harrison, Cole, Travis, Deacon, Collin, and Morgan; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Finn and Rafe.
She is also survived by her sister, Cheryl Martel. In addition to her husband and parents, Carol was predeceased by her sisters, Jean Dow and Linda Kingsbury, and her brother, Daniel Tremblay.
Services will be private, with a Celebration of Carol’s Life to be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Carol’s memory may be made to the Visiting Nurse Home & Hospice.
