Bektouria Ead Alchikh, 97, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. The wife of the late Gattas Alchikh of Maara, Syria, they were married for 50 years. Born in Maara Syria, she was the daughter of the late Elias and Takla Ead. She is survived by her nine children:
Bassam Alchikh and his wife Genevieve Khoury, Michael Alchikh and his wife Rania Al Safadi, Elias Alchikh and his wife Mouna Eid, Ebtessam Dib and her husband Farid Dib, George Alchikh and his wife Diana Eid, Seda Hana and her husband Najib Hana, Mary Alchikh and her husband Joseph Barbaria, Najat Peters and her husband Gabriel Peters, Hani Alchikh and his wife Lina Alchikh, 32 grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren and growing.
Her legendary green thumb was evident in the lush, thriving plants she nurtured, often talking to them with kind words and tender care. She had a deep love for the Earth and it loved her back. She always had a project she was excited to start. A remarkable cook, she prepared meals for many, expecting guests and ensuring no one left her home hungry. Every newborn in the family was welcomed home with blankets and clothing she knit. She raised a family of doctors, pharmacists, lawyers, teachers, and engineers, passing down her strong work ethic to each of them. She will be remembered as a kind, hardworking, and gentle woman who will be forever missed.
Family and friends are kindly invited to a Liturgy of Christian Burial on Tuesday June 11, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Basil the Great Church, 15 Skyview Drive in Lincoln. Burial will follow in St. Basil's Cemetery in Cumberland. Visiting hours are Monday from 4:00-7:00 PM at St. Basil the Great Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Basil's Building Fund , in memory of Bektouria, would be greatly appreciated.
