Armanda Martins Mota (DoVale), aka Amanda, passed away on October 13, 2024 at the age of 86, at her home in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, surrounded by family. Born on February 16th, in Ponta Delgado (Livramento) in Sao Miguel Acores, Armanda came to the US in December 1969 with the then five children to join her husband. Armanda was a devoted practitioner of her faith and was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Pawtucket, RI.
At about 5 years of age, Armanda attended a private school for about 2 years. Around age 9, she advanced in her studies as a fourth grade student. In the US, she attended William E. Tolman High School in Pawtucket, RI., taking night classes in ESL. Armanda became an American Citizen in November 1984.
Armanda worked in only a few companies but most and longest affiliated with jewelry at Hanover Creations once in Pawtucket, RI. Armanda was a Jewelry Setter and really loved creating and was very proud of every piece. Armanda retired around 2000 to care for her sick husband at home.
Armanda was a self taught/leisure artist who found joy in reading books, magazines and newspapers while writing & enriching her life and those around her with her creativity and intellect. Armanda enjoyed studying American History while still reading up on her Portuguese Heritage. She enjoyed nature shows and would discuss all walks of life with her family. She had two cockatiels she adored named Katie & Paulie. Armanda loved to paint & draw freehand on rocks, seashells & canvases. You would often find her sketching flowers, churches and boats. Armanda was very creative with model clay and created a human heart and more. Her love for poetry & music including Portuguese Fados, watching RTP, and Family Feud. Armanda was a joke teller, storyteller, strong-willed and always looking for her own independence. No matter what age, she admired fashion and wanted to always look and feel her best, even while doing everyday things for herself. Her artistic spirit and laughter will be deeply missed by her family and long time friends. Her love for her family deathless.
Armanda cooked and baked for every holiday, keeping her tradition alive in her home with the most unforgettable recipes from her island. She also made American dishes and loved to clip and collect recipes for new ideas.
Armanda is survived by a loving family including her sons, Paul (Cidalia), Ozzy (Jessica), Geraldo (Tammy), Walter, and Helder (Isabel); daughters, Candida and Armanda (Nelson); granddaughters, Sandra (Guillianna), Lisa, Cassie husband Chad (Chase, Chelsea), Tania husband Charlie (Ava, Alexander), Tasha husband Jeremy (Talia) and Myra; grandsons, Nicholas, Jason, and Christoper and her sister, Maria Dos Anjos. She was preceded in death by her husband, Viriato B. Mota in 2001, married 4/13/1958 in Cabouco, Sao MigueI in Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Misericordia; brothers, Albano, Joao, Jose, Edmundo, Horacio, Alvaro; sister, Cecilia; mother, Deolinda Botelho; and father, Alvaro M. DoVale, two grandchildren, Alexander Mota in 2001, and Christoper Mota in 2003.
The Funeral will be held on Thursday, October 17th at 9:00 AM from the Manning-Heffern-O'Neill Funeral Home, 220 Cottage St. Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, One Fatima Dr., Cumberland. Burial will follow in Mount St. Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, October 16th from 4:00 - 7:00 PM in the Manning-Heffern-O'Neill Funeral Home.
