Anthony (Tony) J. Carello, 92, of Pawtucket, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 6, 2025 surrounded by his loving sons. He was the beloved husband of the late Alice (Soares) Carello for 63 years. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Joseph and Madeline (Barthelemeo) Carello.
A graduate of the class of 1950, from LaSalle Academy, Anthony then proudly served in the U.S Navy and U.S Marine Corp as a Corpsman during the Korean War. He later worked at Memorial Hospital where he met his wife, Alice. Anthony graduated from Northeastern University in 1977, retiring from the VA Hospital where he was a Lab Technician for 35 years.
Anthony, or Tony as he liked to be called, was a devoted father to his 5 sons, Michael, Peter (Sharyn), Matthew (Lanni), Jonathan and the late Arnie Carello. He especially loved and cherished his 5 grandchildren, Angela, Lauren, Steven, Paige and Madison, his 9 great grandchildren, Leia, Emmett, Franklin, Elliott, Sami, Lyvia, Nova, Luca Anthony, and Augustus. Anthony was the brother of the late Dolores Hiatt, Theresa Douglas, and Jackie Carello. He also leaves behind many adored nieces and nephews.
Anthony was an avid reader of historical nonfiction, claiming to be an expert on WWII History. He loved sports, playing rugby for the Providence Rugby Club well into his sixties and later playing softball until the age of 88! He was also an avid sports fan of all of the New England sports teams, including the NY Giants.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 10:00 AM in Saint Joseph Church of Holy Family Parish, 195 Walcott Street, Pawtucket. Burial with military honors will be in Mount Saint Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket. Visiting hours are on Friday, January 10th from 4:00 - 7:00 PM in the Manning-Heffern-O ́Neill Funeral Home, 220 Cottage Street, Pawtucket.
