Angela (Casey) Reilly, 84, of Pawtucket died on Friday, June 13, 2025, at Hope Health Hulitar Hospice. She was the wife of the late James Bernard Reilly.
Born in Pawtucket, the daughter of the late Andrew J. and Theresa (Lennon) Casey, she was a graduate of St. Joseph School, St. Xavier Academy, and Salve Regina College. As a member of the Religious Sisters of Mercy for eight years with the religious name Sister Andrea Marie, she taught at St. James School in West Warwick and Mercymount Country Day School in Cumberland.
After leaving the Mercy community, Angela was a social worker for Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Providence. She was subsequently employed by the City of Pawtucket School Department. After receiving a nursing degree from Rhode Island Junior College (now CCRI), she became a school nurse and worked mostly at Shea High School. Following her retirement from Pawtucket schools, she became a school nurse at Bishop Hendricken High School.
Angela first noticed Jim Reilly at the Franciscan Chapel in Providence. One day he finally got the courage to introduce himself and their fates were sealed. It didn't hurt that Jim's middle name was given in honor of the priest who baptized him as an infant – Angela's uncle, Msgr. Bernard Lennon, then pastor of the Cathedral parish. They had a loving marriage with many trips to Ireland and other European countries.
Angela was the soul of kindness. Even in her last months of extreme back pain and debilitating illness, she apologized to those who were assisting her if she cried out, telling them it was not their fault, but simply an involuntary response, then thanking them for the work they do. She had great respect for each person she met and recognized the importance of the roles they filled and the work they performed. The staffs at Rhode Island and Miriam hospitals, Steere House, Anchor Bay, Bethany Home, and Hope Health Hulitar Hospice should know that they now have a very grateful angel smiling on them.
Angela's friends will miss her presence in their lives. She shared their joys, sorrows, and many funny moments and hilarious stories.
Angela's 14 nieces and nephews from her Casey siblings will never forget their fun Auntie Angela who crammed as many of them as possible into her orange VW Beetle for all kinds of adventures. She loved each one beyond measure, laughed at their antics, prayed them through crises, and rejoiced as they grew, prospered, and gave her a new generation to love. Angela also cared deeply for her many Reilly clan nieces and nephews.
She was a cherished sister, always ready to lend a helping hand, attend endless family celebrations, bake cookies, babysit. She was fastidious in her person and her surroundings, but had the grace to overlook those who were not so. She could be slow to make decisions and stubborn in sticking to them, but otherwise just about perfect.
In addition to her husband and parents, Angela was pre-deceased by her brother, Andrew Casey; sister-in-law, Kathleen Casey; and Jim's siblings Peter, John, William, and Eileen.
She is survived by her siblings: Theresa Helldorfer and her husband, Martin, of Santa Fe, NM; Bernard Casey and his partner Carolyne Starek of Washington, DC; Mary Bartholomew and her husband Keith of Hampton, VA; and Susan Cute and her husband Christopher of Pawtucket. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Ann Casey of Carrollton, VA, and Jim's sisters and sister-in-law, Mary Reilly, RSM, Frances O'Malley, Margaret Capezza, and Constance Reilly
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 27, 2025, in St. Teresa Church, 358 Newport Avenue, Pawtucket, RI. Interment will follow at Mt. St. Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket.
