Alice M. (Dwyer) Waite, of Shirley Drive, Cumberland passed into eternal life on May 31, 2026. She was the wife of the late Clifford Waite. Alice was born in Boston, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late John E. Dwyer and Alice M. (Sturgeon) Dwyer. Alice was employed by the Sears Department Store at the age of eighteen. After she and Clifford were married, Alice stayed home to raise their family.
Alice is survived by her five children; Mary ReCasino, Amy Martin, Ann Christie, David Waite, and John Waite. She also leaves many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She loved knitting, needlepoint, and rug hooking. She was active in many charities over the years, especially with foster care for babies awaiting adoption and knitting mittens and hats for children in need. An avid baker, her pies in particular, were delicious and a treat for all!
In her later years, she lived with her oldest daughter Mary and her husband Chris. She and Chris liked to attend Sunday Mass. Afterwards they often would enjoy stopping for some coffee and biscotti. Alice loved to walk and enjoyed the trails at the Cumberland Senior Center, where she was also active and had many friends.
Alice was a loving mother, grandmother, good friend, and the binding force of her family. She will be greatly missed by everyone.
Calling hours will be on Thursday, June 4th, from 2:00 - 4:00 PM in the O'Neill Funeral Home, 3102 Mendon Road, Cumberland, with a short memorial service at 4:00 PM.
Alice's burial will be on Friday, June 5th, and will be private.
