Obituary

Alice Lucille Susi, 95, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 24, 2023. She was the wife of the late Dante Susi. Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Leon and Donalda (Rondeau) Mason. Alice Lucille, along with her husband, owned and operated Dan's Village Restaurant in Lincoln for many years before retiring.

She is survived by her children, Richard Susi and his wife Holly, and Patricia Allard. She also leaves her grandchildren, Jason Allard, Stacey Beal, Alan Susi, Stephanie Morrison, and Stephen Susi. She also leaves 10 great-grandchildren: Sophia Beal, Wesley Beal (with whom she shared a birthday); Jacob, Emily, and Eva Allard; Connor Morrison; Adelaide and John Susi; and, Nico and Dante Susi. She was the sister of the late Florence Shea.

In high school, Alice Lucille was aptly named Miss Sunshine and somehow kept her good humor even as she learned to drive a standard transmission on the hills of Woonsocket. She was a proud graduate of the Bryant College Secretarial program and would have soon celebrated 80 years as an alumna. She was often the hostess of Sunday dinner and holiday meals where immediate and extended family were always welcome. Alice Lucille spent many Saturday nights out with her husband Dan and groups of friends dancing to the music of local orchestras. She loved vacationing at RI beaches and enjoyed telling new acquaintances about her narrow escape from Hurricane Carol while vacationing in Misquamicut in 1954.

Her family and friends were the lucky beneficiaries of her thoughtfulness, kindness, and love of fun. She was always willing to don a costume, participate in a prank and visit with friends. Whether you met her in childhood or far more recently, you'd never be forgotten. She crocheted afghans for every grandchild and donated others for babies at Women & Infants Hospital. She attended endless dance recitals, baseball games, and football games. She was legendary for a car trunk filled with enough snacks to feed an entire sports team. In her 70s, she travelled to a football game on a school bus to Newport where she sat in the cold, pouring rain for the entire game, refusing to retreat to the warm bus. Her love knew no bounds and we will carry her in our hearts forever.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, February 2nd  at 10:00 AM at Saint Joan of Arc Church, 3357 Mendon Road, Cumberland. The burial will be private. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
